The 11th Throneholder for the Palyul Lineage of Nyingma Has Passed into Parinirvana

At noon, on March 27, 2009, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche received offerings from H.E. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, H.E. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, H.E. Minling Khenchen Rinpoche, H.E. Khochhen Rinpoche and H.E. Dzogchen Rinpoche, along with other Tulkus, Khenpos, and Lamas who had assembled to pay homage to His Holiness.

Later that day, accompanied by an escort, His Holiness departed from the Colombia Asia Hospital in Bangalore at 3:30 p.m. and arrived at his Namdrolling Monastery at 6:45 p.m.

His Holiness passed into Parinirvana around 8:30 p.m., Indian time.

His Holiness has been one of the largest contributors in this 21st century for Tibetan Buddhism, particularly to the Nyingma lineage, which has benefited many sentient beings. His Eminence Minling Khenchen Rinpoche requests that we all pray for his swift rebirth for the benefit of all sentient beings.

49th Grand Puja of Mahaparinirvana

As the representative of Mindrolling, Minling Khenchen Rinpoche attended the 49th Grand Puja of Mahaparinirvana of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche held at Namdrolling Monastery in South India. May 22, 2009 marked the 49th day of Pariniravana. Around 6:30 am, the Kudung of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche was escorted from Zangdokpalri Temple to the main temple, Ogyen Donyag Wosel Dargyeling, in a formal ceremonial procession by all of the Tulkus, Khenpos, Dorje Lopons, monks, nuns and all those who were in attendance on this special day. After the Kudung was placed in the shrine hall, the Minling Dorsem (puja) was conducted which was followed by Lama Chopa from the Namcho Terma. After the puja, all the participants made offerings and paid their respects to the Kudung and later, around 5:00 pm, the Kudung was brought back to the Zangdokpalri Temple and placed in the Guru Lakhang (shrine). The Kudung Rinpoche will remain there for one year so that all devotees and students of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche from far and wide can come at any time to pay their respects and receive blessings.

On Friday, February 27th, 2009 Mindrolling Monastery observed the
First Anniversary of the Parinirvana of Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen.




The Kudung of Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen was escorted from the Ladrang (residence) to the main shrine hall of the monastery in full ceremonial procession at 7:00 am. The procession was led by all of the Rinpoches and other Teachers who have been receiving the Rinchen Terdzo Wang that has been bestowed over the past couple of months. From 7:00-9:00 am, there was an audience of the Kudung for everyone attending. H.E. Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche then presided over the Vajrasattva puja as the anniversary ceremony continued until evening. The Kudung was taken back to the Ladrang, around 5:00 pm, with the full ceremonial procession.

His Holiness Mindrolling Trichen Rinpoche


His Holiness passed into parinirvana February 9, 2008 at 7:00 pm, the 3rd day of the 1st month of the Tibetan lunar calendar. As the sad news was first released, all of the Tibetan settlements in Dehra Dun, North India, stopped their Losar celebrations and began doing Mani Mantras (Chenrezig). Most of the shops in Dharamsala, H.P. closed immediately after hearing the news. After that, the traditional sacred ceremonies exclusive to His Holiness' Parinirvana, as well as the annually scheduled ceremonies continued and were attended by hundreds of Sangha in different shrine rooms throughout Mindrolling Monastery. Many have arrived to offer their respects.

The Kudung of Kyabje Minling Trichen Rinpoche

All sacred rituals according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition were performed before placing the Kudung of His Holiness in a traditional reliquary and continued throughout the 49 days after his passing. On the 10th day of the 1st month (Saturday, February 16th) at 10:00 am, H.H. Sakya Trizin's Khandro Dagmo Kushola and son, Gyana Vajra Rinpoche, and Ngor Luting Shab Drung Rinpoche, along with many other Teachers from different lineages, were in attendance to escort the Kudung to the main Mindrolling monastery shrine room. After the Kudung was positioned in the mandala and all traditional offerings were made, Rinpoches, Monks, and Nuns offered their respects.

Numerous dignitaries, monastics, and lay people from different countries as well as local community members and disciples from the West arrived to offer their respects to the Kudung. While holding khatas in their folded hands, they waited to offer their respects, supplications and aspirations. From 1:00 pm through late evening, the general public continued their offerings.

Throughout the entire 49 days of sacred ceremonies for His Holiness, worldwide dignitaries arrived daily to Mindrolling Monastery offering their respects, condolences and support.

On March 29th, all Rinpoches, Tulkus, and the entire Sangha of Mindrolling as well as members of the local community and visiting guests attended the ceremony at the Mindrolling monastery. His Holiness Penor Rinpoche arrived March 28th along with Khentrul Gyangkhang Rinpoche, Mugsang Kuchen Rinpoche, Dzongna Yangse Rinpoche and an entourage of monks. His Holiness, the 11th Throneholder of The Palyul Lineage of Nyingma, is considered one of the most respected masters of Tibetan Buddhism. He is well-knowned for his vast knowledge and accomplishments as well as the integrity and strength with which he upholds the Buddhist teachings.
